At GTA, our values and programs are guided by our mission to “Foster Connection and Delight the Community Through Every Interaction and Experience.” We believe that how we show up as leaders matters and work hard to build strong relationships that not only contribute to GTA’s success but also personal fulfillment. This mission statement has become the motivation for how our leaders get involved and bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to successfully provide high-quality service.
GTA’s leaders are known to have a desire to serve and give back to the community and they give freely of their time and expertise offering knowledge, experiences, and helping hands where needed most. By volunteering their time to various boards and local nonprofits our leaders exemplify GTA’s mission and inspire others to do the same. One of the big programs that GTA recently prioritized is to empower and celebrate our upcoming youth, leaders, and talent on island. Through a variety of programs, such as Junior Achievement (JA) Guam, we inspire our youth to reach their potential by helping them gain skills that will help them be the leaders of tomorrow.
Vice President of Customer Experience, Sharon Davis, stands out as a leader who genuinely emulates GTA’s mission at work, home, and throughout the community. As a Grandma, Mom, Vice President, member of two boards including JA (the list goes on) Sharon wears many hats, all with a contagious smile and humility. By dedicating time to our local youth through programs such as JA, Sharon and many others play a critical role in shaping students future education decisions and career paths and is a great example of why GTA’s recent youth empowerment initiative is a top community priority for our company.
Junior Achievement is the world’s largest non-profit organization dedicated to educating students about work readiness, entrepreneurship, and financial literacy through experiential, hands-on programs. One of the JA upcoming leaders is Roxanne Mikel who quickly stood out amongst her peers and was voted as President of the GTA JA ‘NAPU’ team this past year.
Roxanne was particularly inspired from the experience of working with GTA’s volunteer leaders including Sharon, Dolores Hernandez, and Larry Davis. Upon graduation this past month, Roxanne wrote this heartfelt letter to Sharon:
“Hi Ms. Sharon, long time no talk. I wanted to update you about my college and graduation. First of all, I am excited to announce that I’ll be attending US Merchant Marine Academy for college! I wanted to invite you, alongside with Ms. Dolores and Mr. Larry, to my graduation and tell you the news in person, but because of the pandemic it never happened. I was supposed to graduate on May 23rd, but with the current state of the situation, my class will most likely have a drive-through graduation. Anyway, I just to say thank you for all you’ve done for me with college application and during my time in JA. No amount of words, can display how thankful I am to you and to everyone at GTA.”
For Roxanne, GTA’s mentorship provided her with positive role models that believed in her limitless possibilities. By investing in Guam’s young leaders and island community, Sharon hopes to inspire fellow leadership to join in her efforts by creating time within hectic lives to volunteer and do a good deed. “Pay it forward!”
It’s important that we make a positive impact by spreading kindness and motivation to our future leaders. We encourage all GTA employees to actively seek opportunities to serve our communities and to inspire and mentor our youth. For those who are already doing their part and carrying on this mission-thank you for all you do! Our amazing and selfless employees truly make GTA a great place to work.
